Member Benefits

Membership in the Jewish Genealogy Society of Pittsburgh is about more than attending programs — it’s about being part of a supportive community dedicated to Jewish family history, learning, and shared discovery.

As a member, you receive access to educational programming, research support, and resources designed to help you move forward at every stage of your genealogical journey.

Free Access to All Regular Programming

Members enjoy free admission to all of our regular programs, which feature knowledgeable speakers and cover a wide range of topics related to Jewish genealogy, history, and research methods. Programs are offered in a hybrid format whenever possible, allowing members to attend either in person or online.

Newsletter Subscription

Members receive our regular newsletter, which includes:

  • announcements of upcoming programs and events

  • society news and updates

  • highlights from past programs

  • occasional research tips and resources

The newsletter helps members stay connected and informed between meetings.

Access to the Members Portal

Membership includes access to our members-only portal, an online space that allows you to revisit and explore society content at your own pace. The portal includes:

  • recordings of past programs

  • presentation handouts and supplemental materials

  • archived issues of our newsletter

This is especially valuable for members who are unable to attend every live program or who wish to revisit a topic.

Members-Only Help Sessions

One of the most valued benefits of membership is access to our help sessions, which provide opportunities for personalized guidance and conversation.

  • Bi-monthly members-only help sessions are open to all members and offer a chance to ask questions, discuss research challenges, and learn from both volunteers and fellow members.

  • Monthly in-person help sessions are available for local members who prefer face-to-face assistance and collaborative problem-solving.

These sessions are welcoming, informal, and designed to support researchers at all experience levels.

A Supportive Community

Perhaps the most important benefit of membership is connection. Members become part of a community of people who share an interest in Jewish genealogy and understand both the challenges and rewards of this work. Whether you are just beginning or have been researching for years, you are welcome here.

Who Are These Benefits Best Suited For?

Membership is ideal for anyone interested in Jewish genealogy and family history, including:

  • Beginners who want guidance on where to start and how to navigate records

  • Experienced researchers looking for access to local knowledge, resources, and peer support

  • Local members who can attend in-person programs and help sessions

  • Researchers focused on Pittsburgh or Western Pennsylvania families

  • Anyone seeking a supportive community of fellow genealogists who understand the challenges and rewards of tracing Jewish family history

Whether you are just starting your journey or have been researching for years, our membership benefits are designed to support you at every stage.
