About the Event

This session gives genealogists a practical overview of U.S. arrival records across history—from the sparse documents of the 1700s to today’s digital CBP databases—with a particular focus on the rich records of the early 1900s. Attendees will learn how these records were created, used, and preserved, and how to track both sea, land, and air arrivals. The talk also highlights lesser-known “remedial” arrival records that can fill in gaps when initial immigration records are missing. Alec Ferretti is a New-York-City-based professional genealogist, who has worked for the Wells Fargo Family & Business History Center, researching family histories for high net worth clients.  Alec specializes in the history of 20th century immigrants to the United States, focusing on the Italian Diaspora.  He is a regular lecturer at genealogical societies and conferences.  He serves as the President of the New York Genealogy & Technology Group, serves actively on the Board of Directors of the Association of…
